Hanorah's actions
Economy & Communities
Carry My Trash
SDG 12
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me each day to raise my awareness of how much waste I produce.
Health & Equity
Watch a Documentary About Equity, Gender, Health, or Peace
SDG 3, 5, 10, 16
I will watch 2 documentaries about equity, gender, health, or peace.
Health & Equity
Practice Mindfulness
SDG 3
I will spend 30 minutes each day practicing mindfulness.
Education & Livelihood
Stay on the Ground
SDG 11
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally). As an example, a plane from New York to Los Angeles (~2,450 miles) generates about 65 tons of carbon dioxide.
Health & Equity
Track My Purchases
SDG 10
Each day, I will track my purchases to identify my spending habits. This will allow me to see what purchases can be reduced.
Health & Equity
Make Cleaning Products
SDG 3
I will make a few homemade cleaning products.
Health & Equity
Donate Food
SDG 3, 10
I will find out what food programs are in my area and donate food and/or other items that they request.
Economy & Communities
Mend Clothing
SDG 9
I will mend clothing for myself, family or friends.
Economy & Communities
Learn and Discuss The Economy & Communities SDGs
SDG 7, 9, 12
Each day, I will spend 10 minutes learning about these SDGs and talk with 2 people about what I learned.
Climate & Ecosystems
Explore My Area
SDG 14, 15
Each day, I will spend 15 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.

Hanorah Lucas 4/26/2023 9:14 AMIt is interesting to see how these goals develop as the month goes on! I am not doing the same things now as I was in the beginning, as I have become more educated. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Practice MindfulnessWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Hanorah Lucas 4/23/2023 5:54 AMPracticing mindfulness is important in all aspects of daily life. It is important to take time to reflect on the now, as well as to just enjoy the spaces you're in. Since it is Earth Month, I started incorporating nature more into my mindfulness practices and it has granted me with a new appreciation for the quiet outdoors. -
Hanorah Lucas 4/23/2023 5:52 AMI am learning to appreciate taking my time with things more! -
Hanorah Lucas 4/12/2023 7:21 AMOverall I would say it's going fine! I feel pretty confident about the progress I am making, and I feel far more aware about my personal impact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Make Cleaning ProductsWhat was surprising about the ingredients in your cleaning supplies, personal care, and pet products?
Hanorah Lucas 4/12/2023 7:11 AMI am no longer surprised by this, but all of my favorite "natural" cleaning products have turned out to have toxic chemicals in them. Personal care products are very similar--almost everything has some sort of cancer risking chemical in it! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Mend ClothingWhat was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?
Hanorah Lucas 4/12/2023 7:10 AMI love mending my clothing! It brings new life to things you already love/wear enough to run down through use. I am not skilled at mending, but I think it is more fun to add colorful threads or funky patches to tears/holes as opposed to color matching. It makes it more unique, and it helps you become more comfortable with the process of mending because it's fun! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Track My PurchasesHow have you reduced your purchasing habits and what would you like to do next to reduce your consumption habits?
Hanorah Lucas 4/12/2023 7:09 AMI notice that when warm weather comes around, my desire to consume increases. I have reduced my consumption habits by really considering if I need something as opposed to wanting it. I will continue to do this, while evaluating the reasons behind wanting to buy something. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Carry My TrashWhat one thing will you do right away to reduce your waste? What is the second thing you will do?
Hanorah Lucas 4/12/2023 7:07 AMOne thing I can do right away to reduce my waste is to be more mindful of my plastic usage. I have started carrying metal straws with me more consistently, and plan to start carrying a little set of silverware to limit my plastic cutlery usage! A second thing I could do is to remember to bring my reusable cup when going to cafes as opposed to using the plastic ones provided. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?
Hanorah Lucas 4/10/2023 7:33 AMSpending more time outdoors can help you grow your connection with nature. Better understanding the outdoor spaces in your community/area gives you a chance to get to know the local wildlife.
