  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

Did you know? - perishable products are usually safe to consume beyond their “best by” date if they’ve been handled and stored properly. The best way to know if your food is still safe to eat is to use your senses. Most food will change color or smell when they have begun to go bad...

Did you know? - The building industry has the potential to have a large impact on drawing down greenhouse gas emissions. There are many different energy efficiency strategies to reduce the impact of buildings. In addition to this, on-site energy generation takes buildings a step further to reduce their impacts. The ideal solution combines both of these strategies with buildings generating as much renewable energy as they consume on an annual basis. This is the essential concept of net zero buildings. In this way, net zero buildings combine many other Drawdown solutions into one elegant concept for humans to strive towards.

What is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?

    Lourdes Lopez's avatar
    Lourdes Lopez 4/23/2021 7:18 AM
Did you know?-- Project Drawdown conducts an ongoing review and analysis of climate solutions—the practices and technologies that can stem and begin to reduce the excess of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Each solution reduces greenhouse gases by avoiding emissions and/or by sequestering carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere.
  • Reflection Question
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

    Lourdes Lopez's avatar
    Lourdes Lopez 4/20/2021 6:34 AM
Did you know?-- By simply asking "Do you serve sustainable food?" you are making a change!-- it helps build demand for sustainable products and encourages businesses to improve their sourcing information. At seafoodwatch.org you will start learning why your seafood choices are important. And how we all together can improve the sustainability of seafood and improve ocean health.
  • Reflection Question
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about Biochar
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Lourdes Lopez's avatar
    Lourdes Lopez 4/16/2021 11:04 AM
Did you know  Biochar is produced by burning organic material from agricultural and forest wastes? In a container with very little oxygen, the organic material is converted into a stable form of carbon from where the energy produced can be captured and used as a form of clean energy. This is by far more efficient at converting carbon into a stable form and is cleaner than other forms of charcoal.
  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Climate Resilience Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Lourdes Lopez's avatar
    Lourdes Lopez 4/16/2021 10:16 AM
Did you know -- Green gentrification is when investments in sustainable infrastructure and initiatives in a city push out and price out lower-income residents?
The challenge is to create inclusive climate-action planning that reduces the barriers some groups face when participating and benefiting from these actions.

    Transportation Explore Other Transportation Solutions
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Lourdes Lopez's avatar
    Lourdes Lopez 4/15/2021 1:21 PM
Did you know?-- Cars are terrible for the environment. Before they even manage to get on the road, gas-powered vehicles consume a ton of energy. The automotive production process uses materials like steel, glass, rubber, plastic, and paint. And once the machines make it off the assembly line, things get worse....

  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Composting
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

    Lourdes Lopez's avatar
    Lourdes Lopez 4/15/2021 10:59 AM
Did you know? -- Compostinh enriches soil, helping retain moisture and suppress plant diseases and pests. Reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. Encourages the production of beneficial bacteria and fungi that break down organic matter to create humus, a rich nutrient-filled material.
  • Reflection Question
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Lourdes Lopez's avatar
    Lourdes Lopez 4/15/2021 10:57 AM
did you know?- In Nebraska, there is tremendous energy potential within manure on Nebraska's beef, dairy, pork, and poultry operations that could be recovered by anaerobic digestion
