  • Reflection Question
Basic Needs & Security Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

Something to reduce my water footprint would be to try not to rinse/wash the dishes before putting them into the dishwasher as it wastes a lot of water as opposed to just putting them directly into the dishwasher.
  • Reflection Question
Basic Needs & Security Reduce Animal Product Consumption
What was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?

Recently made wok vegetables and peanut butter sauce (secret ingredient)! Definitely my favorite meal to make at home!
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Spend Time Outside
What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

This action was definitely my favorite - in addition to doing some gardening and just being outside, I also walked two times more compared to March :)

What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

    Anette Maria Kuklane's avatar

To be more sustainable, I mostly shop second hand and don't eat meat often. In the summer, I also grow different produce myself (tomatoes, cucumbers, bell pepper etc). Though I could definitely be more sustainable by driving less (this is most prevalent in the winter) and become better at recycling.

I've been wanting to go to rent out a barrel camping pod on lake Rummu and finally made a booking for this :)
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Safe Disposal of Medications and Household Chemicals
Do you have any tips for others on finding locations that accept products for safe disposal?

    Anette Maria Kuklane's avatar
Anette Maria Kuklane 4/25/2022 5:10 AM
In Estonia, medications, household chemicals and other hazardous waste can be taken to the waste centres (four places in Tallinn) for safe disposal. Medications and syringes can also be taken to the pharmacies.
  • Reflection Question
Basic Needs & Security Know Your Produce
What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

    Anette Maria Kuklane's avatar

Went through the two lists as well as the full article of the shopper's guide to pesticides in produce. Though it was interesting to read, most is relevant only to the US as the EU has legislative frameworks in place to regulate the use of pesticides (including having a list of approved substances and setting import tolerance levels of maximum residue levels). Meaning that most of the harmful substances used in the US are not allowed in the EU. In a study conducted in 2017, over half of the kale sold in the US was contaminated with the residues of a pesticide called Dacthal that has been identified as a possible carcinogen but has been prohibited in the EU. Nevertheless, it was very interesting to read more about this topic and understand how the use of pesticides is linked to various diseases including brain damage, cardiovascular disease, lower fertility, hormonal imbalances and cancer. Will keep this in mind and try to opt for organically grown produce options in the future.

We volunteered at a Food Bank organizing boxes donated by different grocery stores in Tallinn. Next I’d like to volunteer at a shelter or again at the Food Bank.

I usually always mend my clothes that have wholes in them and it feels nice - clothes will last longer and I get to improve my skills.
