WELCOME to week three of the Earth Month Eco Challenge! This week we are putting out a challenge that will incorporate two ACTIONS. The first one is in the Climate and Ecosystems category: We challenge our team members to LEARN ABOUT THE CLIMATE & ECOSYSTEMS SDGS (SDG #13, 14 & 15). AND - in the Education and Livelihood category we challenge everyone to ENGAGE IN ACTIVE LISTENING (SDG #17 PARTNERSHIPS). Please add a reflection or two in the feed!
P.S - How are we feeling about the snow???

Today was another H2Awesome water conference presentation for grade 7 and 8 students in UGDSB. The speaker presenting was Michael Cywink. He is an Indigenous artist and author. He spoke about water and how water can be healing. He connected this to the idea that water is life and how we need to show a great deal of respect for water.

Health & Equity Spend Time Outside
What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

Started the day outside walking the dog! Such a nice way to kickstart the day - especially with the sun and warmth.  Over the last few years especially, have felt the impact of spending most of my time inside and on screens. My eyes are sore for one! Also, energy levels are lower. It is amazing how swapping out time indoors for time outdoors changes energy levels so quickly!
  • Reflection Question
Climate & Ecosystems Learn About The Climate & Ecosystems SDGs
What was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?

UG Pivot Project 4/12/2022 9:15 AM
All of these SDGs are interconnected! A linking factor would be around human use and interaction with the earth. More and more, we recognize the importance of reconnecting with the natural world and our responsibility to take care of it. Especially for those who are better positioned to do so - as we know that these SDGS disproportionately impact folks - whether because of geography, socioeconomic status, etc.

In honour of this week's focus challenge - set some intentional time to walk the Ivy Trail at the University of Guelph Arboretum today. Signs of spring are definitely there - interesting to consider how different the trail will look only a few short weeks and months from now!

Unfortunately was not able to get there for the Wednesday walk with the naturalist intern. Was super grateful to be reminded of some of the additional ways they tried to support outdoor connections during lockdowns through capturing some of these and sharing widely. Wanted to share in case others might benefit! https://arboretum.uoguelph.ca/wednesdaywalks

Spending time outside this morning made us more aware of the signs of spring creeping up all around. Nature is such an amazing thing! What signs of spring are others on the team noticing?
