  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Support Indigenous & First Nations Communities
Why is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?

It is important to honor indigenous communities because they were on the land first and we destroyed their communities. I enjoyed learning about the conservation work indigenous communities lead, as I am very interested in the intersection of culture and conservation.
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Learn About Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women and girl's equitable participation or representation in your community? Do you experience these barriers?

Girls are often left behind from the start, expected to learn how to be a good housewife and mother while boys are allowed to explore the sciences and other trades. Many higher up positions are all men, and it's very difficult for women to gain the respect it takes to get that high. I was raised female, so I encountered a lot of these barriers growing up. It's interesting to see the other side now that I have transitioned
  • Reflection Question
Education & Livelihood Volunteer In My Community
What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

    Elliot Heye's avatar
    Elliot Heye 4/11/2022 5:49 PM
I can volunteer with our wildlife center to help educate others on how to take care of the wildlife around them. So many animals end up in human care because of preventable accidents (trapping, car accidents, dog and cat attacks) and I can help people learn how to avoid that
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Safe Disposal of Medications and Household Chemicals
Do you have any tips for others on finding locations that accept products for safe disposal?

    Elliot Heye's avatar
    Elliot Heye 4/09/2022 7:10 PM
Look for locations at local hospitals and if the health center is able to take them!
  • Reflection Question
    Education & Livelihood Work-Life Balance
How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

    Elliot Heye's avatar
    Elliot Heye 4/09/2022 7:09 PM
It creates a more sustainable life for me by allowing me to recharge. Without it, I'd burn out and wouldn't be able to do things like making my own food or getting outside.
  • Reflection Question
Climate & Ecosystems Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?

    Elliot Heye's avatar
    Elliot Heye 4/09/2022 7:08 PM
Spending more time outdoors lets me feel more comfortable in my space and learn about what's around me. I like visiting all of our local parks!
  • Reflection Question
Economy & Communities Online Energy Audit
What most interested or surprised you about your energy audit?

    Elliot Heye's avatar
    Elliot Heye 4/09/2022 7:06 PM
The amount of lights that stay on in our building all the time uses a lot more energy than I thought.
  • Reflection Question
Basic Needs & Security Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

    Elliot Heye's avatar
    Elliot Heye 4/04/2022 12:41 PM
I want to start tracking where my food is from to make sure they're using water responsibly.
  • Reflection Question
Climate & Ecosystems Learn About Invasive Species
What is one invasive species in your region and how does it impact your region's ecosystem?

    Elliot Heye's avatar
    Elliot Heye 4/04/2022 12:34 PM
Zebra mussels in the water outcompete native species and disrupt the local ecosystem, altering the food chain. Lots of species can't eat zebra mussels
  • Reflection Question
Climate & Ecosystems Reduce Single-Use Plastics
What plastic or single-use items do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted?

I get a lot of drinks in plastic cups. I could start getting my starbucks in reusable cups
