Jennifer's Actions

Economy & Communities

Purchase clothing made from recyclable materials.

I purchased jeans made from recycled water bottles. Every pair of jeans made saves 6 water bottles from being added to a landfill. Bonus - the jeans are super soft and comfy!

  • Reflection Question
    Economy & Communities Induction Cooking
Would you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?

I have never used an induction oven but definitely will consider getting one. I love to cook and have noticed the uneven surface cooking with an electric flat up.
The per unit efficiency of induction Cooking Tops is about 5-10% more efficient than conventional electric resistance units and about 3 times more efficient than gas. This is an incentive!
    And Gordon Ramsey uses one.

    Health & Equity Practice Mindfulness
What was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?

Being mindful helps to slow down, invoke thoughtfulness and understanding to the reason behind what a\you are doing and why you are doing it. It helps me to create a sense of wonder to replace so much of the daily chaos we each face.
  • Reflection Question
Basic Needs & Security Know Your Produce
What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

I have never used these list before. I was surprised at how many of the veggies and fruits that I have not been buying organic that I now will. It was enlightening to me to learn that despite washing or peeling the amount of pesticide I have  been ingesting by nor purchasing organic!
  • Reflection Question
Basic Needs & Security Make Zero-Waste Meals
How did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?

Scrub the sweet potato skins and eat the entire potato.
Chop the broccoli stalks and use with florets.
    Do not peel carrots.
I will try to compost bits of veggies that I cannot eat.
  • Reflection Question
    Education & Livelihood Work-Life Balance
How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

Practicing work-life balance enables me to be more productive and less stressed, both at work and home. Less guilt about if I am giving enough to each important area in my life.
With a good balance, I can meet both needs and feel more peaceful.
