  • Reflection Question
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

OMG! It was really threatening to learn that some of my most favourite  regulars were the trifecta of deforestation.

I never imagined coffee, cocoa, dairy products would be the most common items which leads to deforestation.

I have planned to reduce using these items regularly and some day for sure these food items would become my occasional eateries thus making it positive to my health as well creating positive impact to our planet

Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Deepthi H's avatar
    Deepthi H 4/18/2021 8:10 AM
"It is really difficult" to follow mindful eating as we all have been used to mindless eating for years.

    Cons:
    It would be boring,
We would have that urge to pick our mobile or switch on Television.

    Pros :
I truly savour and taste my food. My taste buds could sense the food better
I eat less. May be I am bored and I would like to finish off my meals as early as I could which is why I take up less portion of food.
I am trying to have different combinations of food. Using different seasonings to see how does it taste.

Action Track: Climate Resilience Tend A Garden
Have you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.

I haven't been to any trips in my life time and I live in a city where  its rare to enjoy the nature.
A year back I have been to my cousin's house where they have set up terrace gardening. Almost 70% of our daily consumable vegetables has been gardened and been used in their day to day cooking.
    Fresh and organic!!

That where my love towards gardening has begun! No matter the place, anything is possible with consistent effort

It would be such a pleasure to eat our own cultivated food!
  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?

    Deepthi H's avatar
    Deepthi H 4/09/2021 10:54 AM
Supporting Local farmers inspires me the most as they are the most closest people to nature who could just play with soil, water, weather, plants , etc with great experience and knowledge.
Productivity will also be more which could serve many in a community.
  • Reflection Question
    Land Sinks Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Deepthi H's avatar
    Deepthi H 4/08/2021 10:48 AM
Watching the tree grow and taking care of the planted tree and their transformation has reduced my stress level, tension and improved my mood.
Personally, my mood would lit up or it would be a bliss to even talk or read about gardening or planting tress.
  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Deepthi H's avatar
    Deepthi H 4/08/2021 10:11 AM
The cost of producing meat products or meat related food items is high, compared to having a plant-based diet from ingredients you can grow from your yard yourself. This explains why access to it remains limited to those who can afford it.
    1.     It affects other people by compromising its access to billions of people that need to eat.
    2.     Also Excessive consumption of meat and meat products is often associated with overconsumption of energy and fat, resulting in excess weight, obesity and an increased risk of chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
    3.     The climate impact of meat is enormous – roughly equivalent to all the driving and flying of every car, truck and plane in the world. When forests are destroyed to produce industrial meat, billions of tonnes of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere, accelerating global warming. The fallen trees are often left to rot on the forest floor or are burned, creating further emissions.

Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Deepthi H's avatar
    Deepthi H 4/03/2021 9:59 AM
"Access to safe, voluntary family planning is a human right" & it is a key factor in reducing poverty.
To prevent unintended pregnancies, reduce the number of abortions, and lower the incidence of death and disability related to complications of pregnancy and childbirth, Family planning is a must.
It contributes to poverty reduction and global development.

UNFPA aims to achieve three world-changing transformative results:
    1. Ending maternal deaths
    2. Ending unmet need for family planning and
    3. Ending gender-based violence and harmful practices
