  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Climate Resilience Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

    James Ferguson's avatar
    James Ferguson 4/28/2021 5:11 PM
I have worked with DBE's and women-owned business through work in the contracts we strike with subconsultants. I will research local women-owned businesses in the greater LA area to further support them and our local communities.
  • Reflection Question
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    James Ferguson's avatar
    James Ferguson 4/28/2021 5:08 PM
Purchase products that do not contain palm oil!
  • Reflection Question
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    James Ferguson's avatar
    James Ferguson 4/28/2021 5:07 PM
Supermarkets contribute greatly, as they have huge refrigerated facilities that operate constantly and thus rely on refrigerants and are some of the leading emitters of highly potent HFC's! HFC's when considered together and their global warming potential are the single greatest potential for reversing global warming!
  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    James Ferguson's avatar
    James Ferguson 4/28/2021 5:05 PM
I am more mindful of the flavor in my food and quantity that I have eaten. More time for savoring!
  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Climate Resilience Support a Community Garden
What are the multiple benefits of community gardens, including carbon sequestration? Why do these benefits matter to you?

    James Ferguson's avatar
    James Ferguson 4/28/2021 5:04 PM
Mental health benefits of tending to nature, reducing food-miles for my food & pollution associated with that transportation, fostering a sense of community around healthy eating and stewardship. All of those benefits matter to me because they create a better quality of life and leave a legacy of clean, resilient food systems for others and future generations.
  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions Express My Support For Walkable Cities
How could better walking infrastructure make your city both more enjoyable and more equitable?

    James Ferguson's avatar
    James Ferguson 4/28/2021 5:01 PM
By prioritizing mobility that is accessible to all, not just those who can afford a car or even a bicycle, cities that improve walkability and walking infrastructure can make their communities more enjoyable and equitable.
  • Reflection Question
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    James Ferguson's avatar
    James Ferguson 4/28/2021 5:00 PM
A community that captures its own waste, making it into renewable resources and creating a circular system of resource management rather than a linear one with waste that goes into the landfill or atmosphere.
