Reflection QuestionBasic Needs & Security Know Your ProduceWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Vinitha E K 4/30/2023 11:02 AMWas shocking to know that some of the fruits that I had been using is part of the dirty list. What is more soothing is atleast some of the vegetables and fruits that I frequently buy are reflecting in clean list or not featuring in clean / dirty list. This list is an eye opener to make a wise choice to keep oneself happy. -

Reflection QuestionEconomy & Communities Analyze Your Utility BillsWhat was the most interesting thing you learned from analyzing your utility bill? What are some ways you can save energy and water?
Vinitha E K 4/30/2023 9:46 AMAfter analysing the electicity bill, I had realised one of the major contributor is the usage of induction stove. Whenever I had asked my husband to switch off the lights / fan when not in use, he always used to advise me to reduce induction usage. Initially I did not listen but thought of trying it for a month to see if there is reduction. To my surprise on comparing the utility bill with last year's and previous month , the bill was much lower. I have now started to reduce its excessive usage. Plans in pipeline to convert all lights into LED and to explore feasibility of having solar panel. -

Reflection QuestionBasic Needs & Security Calculate Your Water FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Vinitha E K 4/29/2023 9:13 AMExisting practices :
Though we have shower, we do not use them as it consumes lot of water.
Since washing machine requires huge amount of water than traditional method of washing by hands, clothes are washed once in two days.
Letting the water from washed cloths flow to one portion of the plants / trees in the garden.
Pipes are laid down in such a fashion that the water from sinks in the kitchen / dining hall flows to the other portions of the plants / trees in the garden.
Explorations in pipeline:
To reduce washing the vessels in running tap and follow the traditional method of collect water in a bucket and washing the vessels. -

Vinitha E K 4/26/2023 6:17 AMI always had in my mind that I should do something and give back to the nature or society that had shaped me up to what I am now. I have a strong passion for gardening but was unable to pursue them due to other priorities. Felt it to be a golden opportunity to develop my passion . Over a period of time, the selected actions could become a habit and the passion could easily get translated into reality. I see this as a stress busters , way to keep me little more organised , kind of exercise for body and mind for a healthy living.-
Tamilarasu Balasubramaniam 4/27/2023 8:10 AMKudos to you. Keep doing!!! -

Daily doing these activities almost for a month, turning to be a habit, feels like a great accomplishment :D
