  • Reflection Question
Education & Livelihood Research Impact Investing
After learning more about investing, how can you increase positive impacts and decrease negative impacts?

    James Duval's avatar

One critical aspect is to consider the manner in which investments are made in order to support sustainable infrastructure and work opportunities available to local populations.
  • Reflection Question
Education & Livelihood Learn About The Education & Livelihood SDGs
What was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?

    James Duval's avatar
    James Duval 4/30/2022 10:45 AM
One linking factor is considering the pathway for individuals to progress from childhood into adulthood with viable ways to sustain their lives and their communities. In order for communities to thrive, it is essential for young children to be supported with their educational pathways in a way that leads to viable work opportunities.
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Learn About Equitable Food Access
How is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?

    James Duval's avatar
    James Duval 4/30/2022 10:30 AM
With our world's population continuing to grow, climate change creating more volatile weather patterns, and clean water shortages around the world, food equity and access will depend upon humanity developing sustainable ways to nourish its populations.
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Support Indigenous & First Nations Communities
Why is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?

    James Duval's avatar
    James Duval 4/30/2022 10:28 AM
It is important to honor native and indigenous peoples in order to affirm and acknowledge the past, present, and future impact of individuals and cultures that have often been erased from the collective conscience of far too many.
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Learn About Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women and girl's equitable participation or representation in your community? Do you experience these barriers?

    James Duval's avatar
    James Duval 4/30/2022 10:25 AM
In addition to legal barriers that exist, bias and discrimination continue to create walls and ceilings that impact equitable access and participation for women and girls. We see these barriers throughout society beginning at a young age, in the way that our culture implicitly establishes both limits and unrealistic expectations, all the way through to adulthood in the way that access to work opportunities and leadership is limited.
  • Reflection Question
Climate & Ecosystems Support Local Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?

    James Duval's avatar
    James Duval 4/30/2022 10:21 AM
My favorite pollinator is the sunflower, hands down. Our care for pollinators directly impacts the cyclical nature of the each ecosystem that is necessary for ongoing regenerative growth.
  • Reflection Question
Climate & Ecosystems Learn About Invasive Species
What is one invasive species in your region and how does it impact your region's ecosystem?

Porcelain berry is in Riverdale Park. Although it is beautiful, it suffocates the growth of other plants in a way that damages the ecosystem.

What was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?

One linking factor here is the need to action as opposed to passive understanding of what needs to occur. There are many steps that individuals and communities can take on a small or large scale to make a significant impact.
  • Reflection Question
    Health & Equity Communicate Constructively
What is easy for you to do when having a constructive conversation and what is challenging? What tips do you have for having a constructive conversation?

    James Duval's avatar
    James Duval 4/30/2022 10:17 AM
I feel comfortable being able to stay calm in the face of harsh criticism. What is most challenging is knowing the impact that others will feel as a result of constructive conversations that are difficult. My main tip for having a constructive conversation is to be really honest with oneself about the intentions and goal of the conversation far in advance.
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Cleaning Product Ingredients
What was surprising about the ingredients in your cleaning supplies, personal care, and pet products?

    James Duval's avatar
    James Duval 4/30/2022 10:14 AM
I was surprised that the majority of synthetic additives are related to scent and color as opposed to being the active ingredient. Therefore, being able to find replacements with all natural ingredients are likely to be just as effective if not more.
