  • Reflection Question
Climate & Ecosystems Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?

I went for a jog in a cemetery near my house (not as creepy as it sounds!). The cemetery is designed sort of like a city park-- full of trees and trails. I ran on a new trail this evening and I saw close to 20 deer as well as some geese near a pond. For anyone in Pittsburgh looking for a mostly car-free place to walk, jog, or bike, I recommend checking out the Homewood Cemetery!
  • Reflection Question
    Health & Equity Practice Mindfulness
What was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?

I downloaded the app Headspace and my partner and I used it to do a ten minute guided meditation this morning. We both agreed that it was a great way to start the day! Once it gets warmer I think it will be great to try meditating outside on my porch or at the park near my house to connect more with the Earth.

Happy Friday and First Day of Earth Month everybody!! I wanted to kick the month off with sharing "my why": Why did I join the challenge and choose the actions I did?-- I joined the challenge to try and be more intentional about contributing to, and learning more about, my community. This is also why I chose the actions I selected so far--volunteering in my community, walking down new streets in my neighborhood, learning more about the indigenous people that were on this land first, etc. I think all of these actions will help make a more informed and connected Pittsburgher.
