Using the links provided below, I will research impact investing or my current investment portfolio to determine if they align with my values.
Health & Equity
Track My Purchases

Plan A Staycation in Your Community
SDG 11
For an upcoming vacation, I will spend 45 minutes planning out a staycation in my region. For reference, one several hour flight releases the equivalent of nearly 14% of the annual emissions from a car.
Education & Livelihood
Stay on the Ground
SDG 11
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally). As an example, a plane from New York to Los Angeles (~2,450 miles) generates about 65 tons of carbon dioxide.
Education & Livelihood
Organize a Book Club
SDG 4
I will organize a book club to read about climate change and sustainability.
Education & Livelihood
Watch a Documentary About Education or Work

Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Climate & Ecosystems
Plant a Tree
SDG 15
On average, a tree absorbs 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of carbon dioxide yearly during the first 20 years. To do my part, I will plant 1 trees in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Education & Livelihood
Share Your Eco Habits
SDG 11
Through my Earth Month Ecochallenge feed, I will share with others an environmentally friendly habit I have cultivated.
Health & Equity

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Volunteer in My CommunityWhat was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?
Caroline Bruns 4/30/2023 2:13 PMI volunteered in my local community to help “spring clean” old folks yards. It was an amazing experience, and they were all so thankful. In the future, I would love to continue this or move to more animal-based volunteer opportunities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Advocate for Water Habitat! Why is water habitat important to you?
Caroline Bruns 4/29/2023 4:23 PMThe water habitat has always been important to me, as I frequently played in my neighborhood creeks in the summer. After the train derailment in Ohio, I have been especially cognizant of how water impacts every aspect of my life and how I can do a small part to improve it! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Watch a Documentary About Food, Water, or Basic NeedsWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
Caroline Bruns 4/28/2023 11:26 AMI watched two older films on food, Food Inc. and Super Size me. They both focused on how what we eat makes a huge impact on our energy, and our mental wellbeing. I thought it would be interesting to watch these two documentaries, as I am an avid listener of a podcast on how food can counterbalance hormones (including those that impact anxiety and depression). I thought they were both real, raw representations of choices that we shouldn't (and should) make when it came to fueling our body in the best way for ourselves and the earth. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & Livelihood Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Caroline Bruns 4/28/2023 9:09 AMI am traveling to Pittsburgh, PA for a friend's graduation and was thinking of flying but decided it would best to drive. My car is incredibly fuel efficient, and the drive isn't too long, so it just made the most sense. I took the environmental impact into my decision as well, and I am hoping it pays off (even if it is in a small way).

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?
Caroline Bruns 4/28/2023 9:04 AMPollinators are the base of our society -- they support the growth of everything around us. My favorite pollinator is a bumble bee, which I actively support. I have a large, wooded backyard, and I have chosen to plant wildflower seeds in the sunny spots. I have already seen a lot of growth and an influx of pollinators in my backyard :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & Livelihood Plan A Staycation in Your CommunityWhat place in your region are you most excited to visit during your staycation?
Caroline Bruns 4/26/2023 5:47 AMI planned a staycation with some of my best friends; we are all in the Midwest, but very far north and south. I recommended we meet up in Columbus, OH because it was an easy drive for all of my group instead of doing a further weekend outing. It was very fun, and it definitely was better than the environment than flying somewhere for a weekend to meet up! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & Livelihood Host or Join a Cleanup EventHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Caroline Bruns 4/22/2023 1:36 PMMy home backs up to a busy road, and this weekend I went out and picked up all of the trash from mine and my neighbors back yards. All of the trash that I picked up could have easily waited to be thrown out until the driver/passenger reached home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & Livelihood Organize a Book ClubWhat book did your group decide to read, and why?
Caroline Bruns 4/20/2023 6:39 AMI am currently organizing a book club for Women in Technology. The goal of the club is to read interesting, impactful literature written by women. I think that this would also be an incredible forum to integrate ecological learning! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Make Cleaning ProductsWhat was surprising about the ingredients in your cleaning supplies, personal care, and pet products?
Caroline Bruns 4/17/2023 12:07 PMI chose to make hair clarifier, which essentially helps to break down the buildup of oil and product on your scalp. It was surprisingly easy - just water and apple cider vinegar. I would normally buy a product for this, but I feel like it genuinely has helped my hair and it is natural! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Donate FoodWhy do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?
Caroline Bruns 4/17/2023 9:35 AMI donated food to my local yoga studio, that is currently collecting food donations for the greater Cincinnati area. I donated food because it is a simple and easy way to make a difference for others; additionally, it is usually fairly cost effective. I firmly believe that food impacts a huge portion of your wellbeing, so being able to provide nutritious items will hopefully impact more than just hunger!
