Being born in the month of April has always had me feeling closely connected to Earth day and month. I have always been a free spirit that feels like I could live off the land if I needed to. I joined the eco challenge in hopes to spread my passion for our beautiful "pale little blue dot."

I already have to worry about picking up dog feces on my walks with my many dachshunds, but now I carry an extra bag to pick-up trash! I feel like even just me doing it alone is making the whole neighborhood look better in just a couple weeks!! Wow!!

Using compostable plastics is a HUGE impact that every major company should be on board with that my wife and I are big proponents of. Even if it doesn't make it to a recycling bin; knowing that it will break down at an exponential rate (even if in a landfill) is a sigh of relief.

Going camping over the weekend was such a great reminder of the many things we can do to be sustainable. Every coal was precious to stay warm and for cooking, and we even saved rain water to help extinguish fires.

This one is kind of basic... lol. We buy chopsticks with cool designs and custom art and reusable straws. We make sure to turn down any disposable options offered by businesses to hopefully influence them to stop providing unsustainable conveniences.

We not only recycle in our household, but we also try to reuse things as best as possible. Some examples of things we repurpose: we use bottles as funnels for gardening and plant care, and we string plastics to use as a material for tying things (usually in the garden as well).
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood Thank Educators
How did you thank the educators in your life? If you are an educator, what was the most creative or fun way you have been thanked?

I have a number of educators in my family, so I'm taking some time to hear out how things are going for them, and reminding them how much it means to us all. I have always felt a need to support our educators in a world that could give them a lot more credit.

We use kinesthetic devices whenever possible in our home. For instance: our coffee grinder is a hand-crank burr grinder. No power necessary except that which you possess!

I participate in a local volunteering group that removes invasive species from parks to help the native species thrive undeterred. My opinion: This is so much bigger than people realize!

Instead of meat being an every day assumption in our meals, we save most of our "meat meals" for the weekends. By doing this we lower our consumption impact on the resource-heavy meat industry.
