Amber's actions
Health & Equity
Practice Mindfulness
SDG 3
I will spend 25 minutes each day practicing mindfulness.
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Basic Needs & Security
Calculate Your Water Footprint
SDG 6
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Education & Livelihood
Work-Life Balance
SDG 8
During the workday, I will schedule time for daily breaks during work days to practice work-life balance.
Basic Needs & Security
Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
SDG 6
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Economy & Communities
Mend Clothing
SDG 9
I will mend clothing for myself, family or friends.
Economy & Communities
Choose LED Bulbs
SDG 7
I will replace 4 incandescent light bulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Economy & Communities
Replace Manual Thermostats
SDG 7, 9, 12
I will replace manual thermostats with smart ones.
Climate & Ecosystems
Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening
SDG 14, 15
Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Climate & Ecosystems
Calculate Your Carbon Impact
SDG 13
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Climate & Ecosystems
Plant a Tree
SDG 15
On average, a tree absorbs 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of carbon dioxide yearly during the first 20 years. To do my part, I will plant 1 trees in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Climate & Ecosystems
Explore My Area
SDG 14, 15
Each day, I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Climate & Ecosystems
Drive Less
SDG 13
To reduce CO2 emissions each day, I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.

Amber Acord 4/27/2023 5:25 AMSpent 2.5hrs walking the park fence line yesterday, even though it was work it was nice to be out in nature for a moment. I saw a few different critters, but sadly a large amount of invasive too. -
Amber Acord 4/25/2023 4:41 AMMaking office coffee this morning, and I just love that I work for an organization that cares enough to purchase bird safe coffee. I'm not a coffee drinking so I didn't know about bird safe coffee. Its nice that we have been using it in our office and offering it to guests!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Calculate Your Water FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Amber Acord 4/23/2023 4:35 AMAfter learning what my water footprint is and seeing that my house is less than average with gallons/day it was a nice feeling, since my carbon footprint was not great. I'd like to learn more about grey water systems to help reuse water in my household. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?
Amber Acord 4/23/2023 4:28 AMWithout pollinators we wouldn't be here, they are the hardest workers out there, and they don't get the recognition on a global scale they deserve. I love to see butterfly's, but my favorite pollinator is big thick bumblebees, they are so cute when they take a little nap in the flowers. I planted a small section of pollinators in my yard. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Plant a TreeHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Amber Acord 4/23/2023 4:21 AMIt's nice to do something that you know isn't for you. It takes years for a tree to become mature and there is a chance that what you plant you will never see mature. It's a small step to creating a better tomorrow for the next generation. I like to think that I can feel my Grandma's intentions when I was able to see the tree she planted at her home when I was a child. -
Amber Acord 4/23/2023 4:18 AMI was able to finish my garden work before the storms Saturday and now I just need some garden soil and I'm ready to plant! I have a tent structure set up to grow my squashes this year, I've never grown them vertical so this will be fun. -
Amber Acord 4/21/2023 5:06 AMJust started using eco friendly laundry, packaged in sustainable packages. I also purchased an eco washer that uses less water. -
Amber Acord 4/19/2023 9:31 AMTook the day off today to recharge after a busy pay period, and the day turned out to be gorgeous. I was able to get into my yard and clear out some over winter debris. -

Amber Acord 4/11/2023 4:19 AMYesterday I went to Lake Erie to hike a new trail and found such peace there! There were so few people that it felt like the beach was just for us and the birds.
