Land + Forests

30 for 30 in Nature

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED 15
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air Online Energy Audit
Where did you do an energy audit (work, home, school, other) and what did you learn?

    Sachin Tere's avatar
    Sachin Tere 4/16/2024 9:48 AM
I completed energy audit of our home alongwith with my family and we all agreed to conserve as much as possible in following ways
    - switch off mains of all electronic equipment
    - upgrade bulbs from CFL to LED.
    - reduce load on washing machine by need-based washing
    - morning and late evening use natural ventilation and switch off cooling system
More than financial gain, we feel responsible towards energy conservation

Where did you go for your walk or hike in nature? What were the benefits of doing so?

    Sachin Tere's avatar

This month being eco-challenge we made a deliberate decision to not fly out of local place (we stay in Dubai, UAE) - this was to ensure our contribution towards reducing carbon emissions by not traveling by plane. We infact went out to more than 3 places in UAE - Kalba mangroves, Younus mountains and local farms in Ras Al Khaima in last one week taking advantage of Eid holidays.

Land + Forests Regenerative Agriculture and Me
What did you learn about the practice and benefits of regenerative agriculture? How can you support healthy farming practices for people and the planet?

    Sachin Tere's avatar
    Sachin Tere 4/15/2024 11:39 PM
Regenerative agriculture is improving and restoring the natural ecosystem of soil, water, micronutrients in soil, flora and fauna in local environments that ensure limited use of water without compromising on food production, betters soil health over the period of time without using chemicals. plantation or crops should be planted in a manner they support each other's growth and single crop to be avoided.
I will support such practice by talking about same in our village, friends and the network.

    Sachin Tere's avatar
    Sachin Tere 4/15/2024 11:31 PM
Mass scaling is critical to create significant impact of anything we do in our lives. As I continue to read and learn about various companies that promote sustainability, climate responsible factory productions and awareness towards environmental goals, my resolve goes stronger to invest in these companies. Also I ensure to talk about such companies in my personal network to encourage the discussions and bring more investments in such companies.

How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Sachin Tere's avatar
    Sachin Tere 4/15/2024 11:25 PM
Meat production produces high degree of methane that severely impacts earth's atmosphere by increasing the temperature. Cattle produces methane not only when they are alive but also when they are dead while entering food chain of human beings. Similar to passive smoking, meat consumption impacts other people who do not meat, in form of climate change .

    Land + Forests Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Sachin Tere's avatar
    Sachin Tere 4/15/2024 11:21 PM
While the question reflects on health wellbeing - when I started researching of planting trees last year I realized they can also provide immense financial benefits negating need to depend on interest rates. Hence planted last year more than 400 fruit trees all local varieties and this year another 50+ trees those are mix of flowers and fruits supporting cross-pollination

Spending consistent time outside has definitely had a positive impact on how I feel! Here are some things I've noticed:

      • Increased Energy Levels: Being in nature seems to give me a natural boost of energy. I feel more awake and focused after spending time outdoors, even if it's just a short walk.
      • Improved Mood: There's something about sunshine and fresh air that lifts my spirits. I feel calmer and more optimistic after being outside.
      • Reduced Stress: Nature has a wonderful way of melting away stress. The sounds of birds chirping or waves crashing can be incredibly relaxing.
      • Enhanced Creativity: Spending time outdoors can help clear my head and spark new ideas. Being in nature seems to boost my creativity and problem-solving skills.
      • Greater Connection: Disconnecting from technology and reconnecting with nature allows me to appreciate the beauty of the world around me. It fosters a sense of peace and well-being.

What about you? How does spending time outside make you feel? #EcoChallenge #NatureBoost

Cheese and dairy I have decided to eat less. My frequency of Cheese was 25 gm every 2 days - almost 400 gm per month, now decided to reduce to less than 100 gm per month.
Instead intake of nuts - walnuts/almonds now increased twice the amount from 5-10g/day to 20 g/day
