Sara's actions
Climate + Air
Weekly Meal Planning
One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.
Climate + Air
Declutter My Home Without the Landfill
Each day, I will learn about responsible ways to dispose of items and de-clutter, clean, donate, repurpose or recycle unneeded items in my home to make sure that what I get rid of doesn't go into the landfill.
Freshwater + Oceans
Dishwasher Efficiency
Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than a dishwasher. To save water, I will use a dishwasher and scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Sara Bowersox 4/22/2024 2:25 PMI was disappointed to miss a community recycling event this weekend (was at niece's basketball games). Instead did research on harder to recycle items. Decided I will ask a neighbor to "piggyback" on Ridwell account for a non-driving solution. I'll kick them a few bucks rather than burn fuel!!! -
Sara Bowersox 4/16/2024 4:47 PMBen & Jerry's "Free Cone Day" got me out for an extra midday walk. Line was too long to get a free cone, but the extra time outside was worth the trip (ice cream would have been even better...). -
Sara Bowersox 4/14/2024 7:25 PMWonderful to be outside in this glorious weather! -
Sara Bowersox 4/13/2024 3:15 PMBetter weather brings more cyclists to the hills around my rural home. Today I noticed an uptick in debris - mostly wrappers from snacks consumed on two wheels. I'm going to assume these fell while rider tried to tuck into a jersey pocket (rather than tossed onto the roadside). Let's keep it clean out there!!!! -
Sara Bowersox 4/08/2024 6:54 AMI'm doing terrible with on time daily check-ins, but working on my goals. Litter pick up has been challenging. My neigbors are all working to keep our country road clean! I'll have to walk a different route to find more trash...
